APRIL MEETING

Topic:

Drug Courts in Yolo County: Saving Lives and Families

Judge Rosenberg will address the Bar Association on the timely topic of how Yolo County's Drug Courts are helping to save lives and keep families together.

Judge Rosenberg currently presides over all four drug courts in Yolo County: Adult Drug Court, Juvenile Drug Court, Felony Probation Drug Court, and Proposition 3 Drug Court. He also handles Juvenile Dependency hearings. Judge Rosenberg was a former Mayor of Davis and former member of the Yolo County Board of Supervisors.

When: Thursday, April 21st, at noon.
Where: Casa De Sapore (formerly Pietro's), 929 Court Street, Woodland.

The Yolo County Bar Association is a California State Bar approved provider of Minimum Continuing Legal Education programs and the program is approved for 1 hour of MCLE credit.

LAW DAY

Reserve May 13th on your calendar for Law Day.

This year's topic: "The American Jury: We the People in Action." We will present a mock jury voir dire in a case involving an honor student charged with vandalizing a computer room. More details to come.

Law Day will be held at Woodland High School, and Steve's Pizza will provide lunch for $15.

The Liberty Bell Award will be presented at Law Day to an outstanding non-attorney. Barry Melton, Jim Nolan and Lisa Lance are serving as a committee to select a recipient. Please contact one of them prior to April 15 with your nomination. Attached to this newsletter please find a press release about this award.
 

PRO BONO OPPORTUNITIES

The Voluntary Legal Services Program, a nonprofit pro bono organization that assists low income residents of Yolo County with civil legal problems, is looking for volunteers who are willing to take a case or assist at one of their pro per clinics. LOST FILES

The Association was recently contacted by an individual who is searching for the files of the late Ervin F. Vaughan, who practiced in West Sacramento. Mr. Vaughan apparently retired in the 1990s. Anyone with information on the location of his files, or with information about the whereabouts of Mr. Vaughan's former legal associates or next of kin should call the individual at (530) 848-0652.
