JUNE MEETING

Topic:

Yolo County's Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program

The Yolo County CASA Program advocates for abused and neglected children who are in the dependency system and for at-risk children who are in the juvenile court system.

CASA is a nonprofit organization committed to providing these childeren with a supportive voice in court. In support of its mission, Yolo County CASA recruits, trains, and supervises volunteer advocates who work one-on-one with children in the Yolo County Court System. Through training, CASAs are prepared to develop a relationship with a child and learn how to speak out for that child within the court system.

The court is seeking your input during the planning process as a vital step in insuring the success of the program. Please complete the attached survey and return via e-mail or fax to the court's planning consultant, Kate Harrison Consulting.

The contact information for e-mail responses is kate@kateharrisonconsulting.com; surveys may also be faxed to (510) 524-2154. We are requesting that the survey be completed by June 17, 2005. The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

Thank you for assisting.

LIBERTY BELL AWARD

The YCBA will present the 2005 Liberty Bell Award at our next meeting to John Cron, an outstanding volunteer in the Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) Program.

The Liberty Bell Award was established more than 30 years ago to acknowledge outstanding community service. The Liberty Bell Award is presented by the Yolo County Bar Association each year to honor a non-lawyer who has promoted better understanding of the rule of law, encouraged greater respect for law and the courts, stimulated a sense of civic responsibility, or contributed to good government in the community.

We hope that you can attend our June meeting to show the YCBA's support for Mr. Cron and the Liberty Bell Award.
